General Terms and Conditions of SociaTaal


Effective from April 8, 2024


These are the general terms and conditions of SociaTaal ("
SociaTaal"), a company with address Nieuwe Osdorpergracht 394P, 1068 HV, Amsterdam. SociaTaal is registered with the Chamber of Commerce under number 81955987.


  1. Applicability 


  1. These general terms and conditions apply to all of SociaTaal's services, to any agreement established between SociaTaal and a User (as defined below) of our website www.sociataal.com (the "Website") and to all legal relationships and (legal) actions resulting therefrom. 

  2. By using the Website and SociaTaal's services, you accept to be bound by these terms and conditions.

  3. "Users" means all natural and legal persons who visit the Website, log on to the Website, and/or use, share and/or post information provided on the Website.

  4. SociaTaal will send the general terms and conditions free of charge upon request. The general terms and conditions are also available at www.sociataal.com.

  5. The above definitions are used in these terms and conditions in both singular and plural.



SociaTaal offers an online platform for Dutch language courses and study products.


  1. Use Website


  1. User must comply with Dutch and other applicable laws or regulations when using the Website. 

  2. User may not distribute the following through the Website: 

    1. Plagiarism and/or previously published content;

    2. Pornographic videos, images or other media with erotic content; 

    3. Texts or images that are offensive, racist, discriminatory or hateful; 

    4. Unsolicited advertising (spam); 

    5. False or misleading information; and/or

    6. Viruses, malware, spyware or other software intended to cause damage to computers owned by us or other Users. 

  3. User may not create an account under someone else's name or otherwise impersonate someone else. 

  4. User may not solicit other Users for commercial purposes other than for which the Website is intended. 

  5. If User wishes to report another User abusing the Website, User may send a message to koen@sociataal.com. 

  6. SociaTaal reserves the right to modify or omit the information provided to User before it is communicated to Users and/or published on the Website. 



  1. Account


  1. User must be at least 16 years old to create an account. 

  2. User should shield their account login information from others. 

  3. User must keep his password strictly confidential. SociaTaal may assume that everything that happens on or with User's account is done by User or under User's supervision. 

  4. If User thinks or knows that his account is being abused, User should report this to SociaTaal as soon as possible. SociaTaal will take appropriate measures in that case. 

  5. The User is responsible for his behavior and any data, text, files, information, usernames, images, photos, profiles, graphic art, copyrighted works, links and other content or materials. 

  6. User is solely responsible for the confidential data he provides to SociaTaal or for the omission of confidential data.

  7. SociaTaal is entitled to determine in its sole discretion whether an account will be provided. 

  8. SociaTaal has the right to modify or delete accounts, profiles, data and other information at any time. In addition, SociaTaal has the right to deny Users access to the Website for a definite or indefinite period of time.

  9. If SociaTaal believes that User is violating the law or these terms and conditions, SociaTaal may (partially) exclude User from the Website. For example, SociaTaal may exclude User from the Website by: 

    1. Delete User's account; or

    2. block parts of the Website for User.



  1. Courses and products


  1. Courses provided by SociaTaal are divided into proficiency levels which may require the User to have reached an entry-level before being admitted to the course. SociaTaal can require a User to complete a level assessment prior to access to a course.

  2. Courses are held online over ZOOM unless agreed otherwise.

  3. The User’s inability to attend a class (or entire Course) is at risk of the User and SociaTaal shall have no obligation to refund any (part of) Course Fees.

  4. All Course dates are communicated online prior to the User’s enrollment and therefore the Students assume responsibility for the selection of the Course including its Course dates.

  5. Upon enrollment the User has 1 year of access to the course system. The User purchases a license to use the materials for study purposes and never owns the materials in the course system.

  6. User’s enrolled to a private course will have 1 year access to the course materials, but must book their private classes within 10 weeks after enrolling in the course. After 10 weeks the User won’t be able to book the private classes anymore.

  7. If an employer purchases or organizes a course on User’s behalf, the employer is recognized as the customer, even if User is required to personally contribute to the payment directly to SociaTaal.


  1.  Rates and payment


  1. All prices charged by SociaTaal include VAT or are VAT-exempt.

  2. Payment of invoices from SociaTaal must be made within 14 days of the invoice date.

  3. In the event of non-payment or late payment, the User shall be in default by operation of law without notice of default. The User shall then owe the statutory (commercial) interest from the date on which payment became due until the day of full payment, whereby interest on part of a month shall be calculated over an entire month. 

  4. If a User is in default, for example because amounts due cannot be collected by SociaTaal, SociaTaal is entitled to cancel the account of the User in question.

  5. SociaTaal is authorized to increase rates if:

  1. The case of statutory price increases;

  2. Within three months of the formation of the agreement and this is due to legal regulations or provisions; and/or

  3. From three months after the conclusion of the agreement, if the increase is not unreasonable.


  1.  Liability


  1. SociaTaal is not a party to the agreements reached between Users and is therefore not responsible for the agreements between Users. In the event of a conflict, Users must resolve it themselves.

  2. SociaTaal shall only be liable for direct damage caused by SociaTaal's gross negligence or intent and up to the amount of the invoice amount or an amount of €1,000, if the invoice amount exceeds €1,000.

  3. SociaTaal shall not be liable for any damages that have resulted or may result from any acts or omissions in response to the information on the Website or from:

    1. linked websites, even if imperfect; and/or

    2. inaccuracies in the information made available by us.

  4. SociaTaal is not responsible for errors and/or irregularities in the functionality of the Website and is not liable for breakdowns or unavailability of the Website for any duration due to other reasons.

  5. SociaTaal takes all care that can reasonably be expected from SociaTaal to protect the data of Users and third parties. SociaTaal shall not be liable for loss of data or unauthorized access to data that occurs despite the care taken by SociaTaal. In addition, SociaTaal shall not be liable for loss of data or unauthorized access that arises during the transmission of data over public networks or when using third party networks and systems.


  1. Intellectual property rights


  1. You may not modify, create derivative works from, decompile or otherwise obtain or modify the source code of the Website, except as expressly permitted under an open source license or with express written permission. Any attempt to do so is a violation of SociaTaal's rights.

  2. You may not spread any of SociaTaal’s learning materials or content on the internet.

  3. The SociaTaal name and logo are trademarks of SociaTaal, and may not be copied, imitated or used, in whole or in part, without prior written permission from SociaTaal. In addition, headings, graphics, button icons and scripts, service marks, trademarks and/or logos of SociaTaal may not be copied, imitated or used without SociaTaal's prior written permission.


  1.  Complaints


  1. Complaints submitted to SociaTaal will be answered within a period of 7 days from the date of receipt.

The right to (partial) restitution of the price or compensation shall lapse if the complaint is not reported within the stipulated period, unless a longer period results from the nature of the case.


  1.  Engagement of third parties


  1. SociaTaal is entitled to engage third parties in the performance of its services, where necessary. SociaTaal is not obliged to inform User personally about this. Use of SociaTaal's services implies that User authorizes SociaTaal to accept any limitations of liability of third parties also on behalf of User.

  2. SociaTaal will take the utmost care when engaging third parties. However, SociaTaal is not liable for the acts or omissions of these third parties, unless there is intent or gross negligence on the part of SociaTaal.


  1.  Invalidity


Should any provision of these general terms and conditions prove to be void or non-binding, SociaTaal and User will remain bound by the other provisions of this deed. SociaTaal will replace the void or non-binding provision(s) by a provision that is binding and whose purport is as much as possible the same as that of the provision(s) to be replaced, taking into account the purpose of these general terms and conditions.


  1.  Changes


SociaTaal reserves the right to unilaterally amend, supplement and/or modify these general terms and conditions at any time without any obligation or notice to Users. The most current version of the general terms and conditions can be found on the Website. By visiting the Website, User is informed of the current general terms and conditions.


  1.  Other provisions


  1. SociaTaal may make changes to the design or operation of the Website, including the underlying technical mechanisms, at any time.

  2. These general conditions apply not only to SociaTaal, but also to other persons who are or have been involved in the use of services or on whom any liability rests or might rest in connection therewith. This also applies to their legal successors under general title.


  1.  Applicable law and choice of forum


  1. All Agreements, the General Conditions, and all non-contractual rights and obligations arising therefrom shall be governed in all respects by the laws of the Netherlands.

  2. All disputes between and the Other Party, not being a Consumer, which may arise as a result of an Agreement and/or the General Terms and Conditions, or of agreements resulting therefrom, shall in the first instance be settled by the competent court of the District Court of Amsterdam.
