Together with Culture of Care, we will host several Dutch courses at the PVH office for PVH employees.

  • Day: Depends on the level
  • Time and duration: 16:30 - 18:30, 10 weeks.
  • Classes: 10 classes (1 per week)
  • Price: The price you pay by yourself is €100.

Course Levels Explained

Nederlands Level 1 (A1-)

This course is for complete beginners. We're going to start from the very basics to build a strong base for vocabulary and grammar and we will learn how to have basic conversations in daily situations.

In this course you will learn how to:

  • Introduce yourself in a detailed way
  • Talk about your family and relationships
  • Describe the physical appearance of others
  • Asking and answering questions
  • Congratulate people on achievements
  • Talk about the future
  • Ask for and tell the time
  • Order and pay for drinks
  • Make appointments (very important to Dutch people)
  • Do grocery shopping and go for a picknick with small conversations

Grammar in this course

  • Verbs in present tense
  • Subject, object and possessive pronouns
  • Standard sentence structure
  • Formulation questions
  • Deeper look at the verbs: moeten, kunnen, willen, zullen en mogen
  • Prepositions of time
  • Adjectives
  • Plurals
  • Future tense

Nederlands Level 2 (A1+)

This course is for people who already know some Dutch. You already have some knowledge and can do very basic conversations in Dutch. This course is for you if you know about 80% of the things taught in the level 1 course.

In this course you will learn how to:

  • Try on, buy and return clothes in a store
  • Talk about preferences
  • Give your opinion
  • Talk about cooking and your favorite recipe
  • Talk about your apartment, the layout and the furniture
  • Asking and giving advice
  • Talk about your body and personal care
  • Describe physical complaints

Grammar in this course:

  • Adjectives, comparative and superlative
  • Talking about the past (perfectum)
  • Negations (niet en geen)
  • Diminutives (words ending on -je)
  • Position verbs (Staan, liggen, zitten, lopen, hangen)
  • Prepositions of place
  • Two ways of using “er”

Nederlands Level 3 (A2-)

This course is for people who feel confident in basic Dutch conversations and you’re able to tell: what you did during the weekend, what you’re going to do tomorrow, things you do and don’t like etc. This course is for you if you know about 80% of the things taught in the level 2 course.

In this course you will learn how to:

  • Describe your holiday or trip in a detailed way
  • Describe a city
  • Book a holiday and flights
  • Talk about and describe your bike
  • Buying a second hand bike
  • Asking and giving directions
  • Give instructions
  • Sign up at a gym and compare subscription prices
  • Date in Dutch and small talk

Grammar in this course:

  • Talking about the past (imperfectum)
  • "Er" to refer to a place
  • Separable verbs
  • Verbs with reflexive pronouns
  • Expressing promises, probabilities and suggestions
  • The imperative

Nederlands Level 4 (A2+)

This course is for people who feel pretty confident about their Dutch in simple conversations but who lack the ability to form more complex sentence structures. After this course you feel confident about general conversations in Dutch and you will be able to form more complex sentences in Dutch. This course is for you if you know about 80% of the things taught in the level 3 course.

In this course you will learn how to:

  • Talk about your job and career
  • Express things you wish
  • Apply for a new job
  • Talk about your personality and personal goals
  • Talk about your household and chores
  • Describe what you in a day
  • Have a phone call
  • Write business emails
  • Take part in meetings and discussions

Grammar in this course:

  • Combining two sentences with conjunctions and sentence structure
  • Indirect speech and sentence structure
  • The verb "zouden"
  • Independent demonstrative pronouns
  • The "om ... te" construction
  • Position verbs + te + verb
  • The duratief (aan … het + verb) construction

How long does this group course take?
The courses takes 10 weeks in total. (1 lesson per week)
What is the pace of the course?
This is a "medium paced" course. This means that there will be homework, but there's no mandatory self-study materials you need to complete before the class starts.
How much is the course fee?
The course fee you have to pay by yourself is €100. The rest of the fee is covered by Culture of Care.
Can I join a class online?
No. This is not possible as the classes are very interactive and it's important to be in the classroom. The course is designed in a way that you can always cover the most important topics in the self-study materials, so you won't be behind for next class.
What if I can't make it to a class?
That's unfortunate but not necessarily a problem. If you miss a class you can catch up with the self-study materials. All the grammar and vocabulary is accessible by pre-recorded videos in the course system.
